                                                                   Analysis of OGS Technology Evolution and Changes

1. OGS will become the leading technology direction of the touch industry in recent years. The benefits of OGS (OneGlassSoluTIon, that is, integrated touch) have three points: (1) save the cost of a layer of glass and reduce the cost of a bonding; (2) reduce weight; (3) increase light transmittance. OGS can better meet the needs of ultra-thin smart terminals and improve the display effect. It is an inevitable choice for high-end brand terminals next year.

2. The evolution of OGS technology has fallen into a changing situation, and the conflict of interests between touch manufacturers and panel manufacturers has intensified. In terms of the specific technology evolution direction of OGS, touch and panel manufacturers have differences in technology selection. In order to maintain an independent industrial chain link, touch manufacturers have integrated the upstream strengthened glass CoverLens and proposed a TOL (TouchOnLens) solution; while panel Manufacturers tend to make the touch process in-house, and propose two solutions: On-cell and In-cell.

3. The Sheet method has the greatest potential in TOL solutions. The Sheet method dominated by Wintek Wintek has been suffering from problems such as secondary strengthening of the edge, and there are corresponding solutions. Compared with the Picec method proposed by TPK, the Sheet method can use higher-generation substrates, and has more advantages in scale effect after mass production.

4. Under the leadership of Apple, On-Cell and In-Cell accelerate their maturity. Samsung's monopoly position in AMOLED poses a higher challenge to Apple's iPhone's display effect and thinner power saving. Apple turned to seek the cooperation of panel manufacturers Sharp and TMD, and invested a lot of money and technology to support the research and development of the screen and touch technology of the new generation of iphone. 5. In-Cell will become the final direction of OGS. In terms of thinning effect, In-Cell is about 0.4mm thinner than TOL, and about 0.3mm thinner than On-Cell. The "noise reduction" problem currently encountered by In-Cell requires the in-depth cooperation of panel manufacturers and high-end driver IC manufacturers to solve it. Apple has such an industrial chain integration strength, and mass production is only a matter of time.

6. TOL has an advantage in technology maturity and mass production time, and will be the most cost-effective technology in 2012. In the future, the competition between Apple and non-Apple camps will focus more on panels, and the core position of touch technology will decline. Judging from the current situation of industry chain competition, the non-Apple camp has a wider market space, and the center of gravity will sink to the middle and low end.
